Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) has become very popular during the fast growth of mixed martial arts (MMA) competition, where BJJ is extremely prominent. In fact, the evolution of the contemporary MMA competition is directly related to the unarmed combat efficiency of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. The practice of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu as a sport, however, is clearly separated from MMA and ruled by the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF).  BJJ programs integrate sport specific and self-defense techniques with conditioning and skill-building exercises that lead to improvement of balance, coordination, flexibility and motor skills while nurturing discipline, respect, confidence and problem solving skills. Being that the focus of the sport is on safe grappling techniques that prevent striking, BJJ can be done on a regular basis with no more fear of injury than any other contact sports.
